The Left are so Annoying!

That seems to be the number one complaint about Lefties. One which has been perpetuated by the media, comedians and your average schmoe on social media for what feels like forever.

It’s created a false impression of how the Left behave, whilst simultaneously minimising the importance of issues being fought for. If everything is ridiculed and dismissed regardless of how important it might be, then a culture of simply ignoring or eye rolling in the general direction of the Left is created. That’s where we are.

Stories are often made up and sensationalised to make it appear the Left care about something trivial, when in fact they don’t.

Being annoying is not much of a problem in my opinion and it would be easier to ignore if the media didn’t rage bait the Right with non-issues all the time. A vegan sausage roll is not news. The media and Right also love to try and paint them as ‘Antifa thugs’ for, I don’t know… spraying some graffiti and actually opposing fascism? But the Left are largely non-violent, want peaceful protest and diplomatic solutions.

They used to bust out the guillotines! Just saying.

The Left are perceived as always complaining about something, they want special treatment, they’re attention seeking, they’re attacking free speech and we’re not allowed to say things anymore, political correctness, health and safety gone mad, living in a fantasy world, animal rights, septum piercings, vegans, tattoos, can’t even tell you what a woman is, woke ideology, do-gooders, eroding of traditional values, divisive, elitist, weak, bleeding hearts, terrorist sympathisers, enabling invaders, alphabet mafia, inventing genders etc. And that’s off the top of my head.

That’s a LOT to unpack.

It’s such a broad range of issues and complaints that intersect other areas, a lot of which are true, but framed in a negative light. Some are real gray areas that deserve careful consideration and others are non-issues and need to stop being discussed and given energy.

I will never understand when people mock and complain about ‘bloody do-gooders’ or being ‘woke’, like, come on people, those aren’t bad things!

What trauma have you experienced in your life where you view acts of kindness as weakness or naivety?

I could spend a long time picking apart each criticism and defending the Left’s stance on it, but who wants to read all that? I don’t even want to type it.

These things crop up in other areas all the time anyway, we’ll get to them all eventually. As I mentioned in another post (left vs right) an important question to ask yourself regarding each issue is the intended outcome.

What is being fought for?

What’s the end goal?

I have genuine grievances with the Left, none of which are mentioned above.

Everyone deserves scrutiny, being held to account and I’d say that’s a big problem within the Left because they do it to themselves too much. Being self reflective and wanting to improve is admirable, but it creates in-fighting which leads to factions, inaction and pedantic, semantic arguments. These can sometimes be important issues, but honestly should occasionally be put to one side for the greater good. Identity politics is very guilty of this.

Ultimately we’re all on the same side.

Monty Python does sometimes get things very right and the depiction of the Left in the Life of Brian is still sadly relevant today.

There can be so much arguing over language and the correct course of action that the very thing they’re trying to prevent, happens.

Inaction is probably the Left’s worst crime, or not going far enough when they actually do take it. That, and the inability to prevent damaging political bills from passing or laws being made that negatively impact everyday citizens.

Where’s the accountability? Where’s the justice? Fucking, do SOMETHING!

You only need to watch the first four minutes, but this perfectly illustrates the frustrations many feel about the Left:

Virtue signalling and tokenistic gestures also register as annoying, because what does that actually achieve?

I think representation and raising awareness of certain issues is important and can have a positive effect on society, being visible can help normalise things and make people feel less alone, validated and seen.

Measuring that impact is impossible and even if some people think it’s annoying, I don’t care, it’s worth it if lives are saved or made less miserable.

Of course there are some people that virtue signal or jump on a bandwagon purely for their own social status, but I’m positive those are a minority. Those ‘posers’ are annoying, and basing your whole personality around that stuff might be off-putting, but you don’t have to be friends with them do you?

Whether people virtue signal for personal gain or not, at least they’re still advocating for something… Although maybe those people are causing more harm than good by perpetuating an unrealistic stereotype that exists within the Left?

Damn.

All I’m asking is that people don’t instantly dismiss a concern or issue being raised by the Left, even if you personally don’t think it’s important or applies to you.

I’m asking for empathy.

If and when a time comes that you’re sick, feel like you’re in danger or truly oppressed (I’m not talking about language policing here), who will be there to help you?
Raging Lefties, that’s who.

The NHS, unions, charities, health and safety laws, weekends, sick pay, the right to vote, paid holidays, legal representation, freedom of thought, freedom from torture, the right to live, the right to marry, protection from persecution, religious freedom for everyone and much more.

That’s the Left wing agenda. So annoying.
